Benefit

  • Supplementary grant, own funds are required!:
  • Tuition-free education
  • Monthly living allowance: EUR 1150 (increase to EUR 1300 already approved, subject to official authorization)
  • International airfares (tickets): at cost, maximum of EUR 1000
  • Monthly mobility allowance: EUR 80
  • Monthly family allowance: EUR 250 for spouse and EUR 250 for one child max. (increase to EUR 325 already approved, subject to official authorization). Family allowance is provided only in the 2nd and 3rd year of study, if the family is invited by the student.
  • Assistance in arranging accommodation and health insurance
  • Duration:
  • 36 months (9 months preparatory phase at the beginning; possibility to extend up to a maximum of 2 semesters on a case-by-case basis)
  • Quota:
  • up to 15 scholarships per study year

  • Application form:
  • The following documents have to be submitted:
  • 1. Letter of acceptance from a supervisor of the Austrian host university or an unconditional Letter of Admission (LoA)
  • 2. Research Proposal (5-10 pages)
  • The applicant's proposal for an innovative research project should focus on specific research questions, and contain a clear and detailed description of the research directions and objectives as well as the methodological approach. The research proposal has to be agreed on with the future supervisor in Austria and is expected to include:
  • a clear problem description
  • a literature review (incl. references)
  • expected results
  • possible contribution of the project to the research (landscape) in Austria and/or in the applicant's home country
  • methodological approach (research design, research questions/hypotheses, research method)
  • workplan and timetable
  • list of the applicant's publications (if already available) or qualifications necessary to do the research in question
  • 3. Permission from the head of the home university for those coming from public universities and/or the head of Agency for Higher Education in respective region for those from private universities
  • 4. Two reference letters by university lecturers (no specific form required: they must contain the letterhead, date and signature of the person recommending the applicant and the stamp of the university/department and must not be older than six months at the time of application.)
  • 5. Scan of passport (page with name and photo)
  • 6. Scan of transcripts and graduation certificates of former studies (diploma, bachelor, master)
  • 7. Detailed Curriculum Vitae in English language
  • 8. Certificate of English language competency with a minimal score of TOEFL IBT 90 or TOEFL ITP 550 or IELTS 6.5, valid for 2 years from the date of test. The language requirements for admission may be higher at the host university.
